AEN export of an Aeneis database

An Aeneis database can be exported to an AEN file (XML file compressed in ZIP format). Unlike the raw data export, the AEN export does not export versions but only working drafts of objects. When exporting an AEN file, either the working drafts of all database objects or selected database objects can be exported.

Instruction:

  1. In SystemAdministration or WebModeller, select the relevant objects to be exported to a file.

Tip: Several objects can be selected by holding down the CTRL key.

Note: The children of the selected objects are exported automatically and do not have to be selected explicitly. If you do not want to export all children, you can deselect them individually in the export dialog.

  1. Select Export... from the context menu:

  1. In the Export... dialog, click Save and make the following settings to perform a custom export:

    Setting

    Description

    Export file

File name of the export file

    File format

In addition to the *.aen file format, you can also select a different file format for the objects to be exported.

Customized This option displays the selected objects and their sub-objects in a list. In this list, you can individually specify which objects are to be exported.

Note: If the user-defined export is active, relationship objects that describe a relationship between two objects cannot be freely selected via the list. They are preselected as soon as at least the referencing object is selected.

    Automatic export

If you disable the Custom option in the Export... dialog, additional export settings appear, which Aeneis uses to create the export automatically.

    Setting

    Description

    Export directory objects

With this option the users, user groups and access control lists of the objects are exported as well.

    Export user passwords

With this option, the passwords of the users of the objects are also exported.

    Export schema description

With this option the schema description (categories, attributes...) of the objects is exported as well.

    Export shape objects

With this option, user-defined shape objects are exported as well.

    Export complete database

This option exports all working copies of all database objects.

    Export selected objects only

With this option only the selected objects will be exported.

    Do not export any objects

This option exports only the schema description (categories, attributes...) and/or the directory objects (users, groups...).

Requirements: At least one of the options Export directory objects as well and Also export schema description is activated

    Keep order of inverse lists

With this option, inverse lists that store relationships between model objects are exported with the correct order as well.

    Include path/main assignment objects

This option exports the main object to which the selected object is assigned.

From the selected object, the main association path to the child object is always exported to the minimum extent. This way, referenced objects, which are included in the export hierarchy but only linked, greatly reduce the scope of the export. However, the main/parent object of the selected object must always be exported as well, otherwise it is not known at which position it should be inserted.
